The journal is a daily record of proceedings held during the June and September terms, 1889, of the U.S. District Court for the Fifth Judicial District of the Territory of Dakota. The journal provides a record of the organization of the court under provisions of an Act of Congress, August 9, 1888, lists the names of the presiding judge and court officers attending the sessions and records the proceedings held by the grand jury and Federal court in criminal matters, including arraignment of defendants, petit jury verdicts, and sentencing.
